Platelets Grown from Adipose Stem Cells

Human donors supply some 4.5 million platelet units worldwide each year. Shortages exist because donated platelets only last about one week. To improve that situation, researchers at Tokyo University School of Medicine have demonstrated means of creating adipose-derived mesenchymal stromal stem cells that produce platelets in twelve days. Testing has shown that these manufactured platelets behave as donated platelets. MORE
