Measuring Heartbeat and Blood Flow with a Camera

Noting that hemoglobin absorbs green light, researchers at Utah State University have used a camera that captures changes in skin color (i.e. more hemoglobin pumping through vessels near the skin surface, less green light is reflected) and software to measure the variation and translate it into heart beat rhythm. Whether or not this could take the place of a stethoscope, it could be a useful lie detector. MORE
