Telerobotic Ultrasound System – Patient Site
This piece describes a technology “in progress:” telerobotic ultrasound. Researchers at the University of Saskatchewan have designed a system that employs a robotic arm, an ultrasound probe, and HD teleconferencing. Their aim, of course, is to provide accessible and cost effective means of doing ultrasound imaging from remote locations. Their experiment showed that telerobotic ultrasound was just as effective as conventional ultrasound in some situations, better in others, and worse is some. Moreover, costs for equipment were able the same. So, the point here is that there is a way to go before this technology can be generally useful—and thus an opportunity for development. MORE
