Regenerating Natural Hearing
February 7, 2017 | Terry Sharrer
Age-related hearing loss most often results when the tiny cilia hairs of the cochlea break down. Hearing aids can amplify sound is some sophisticated and costly ways, but until now restoring natural hearing has not been possible. That may change with developments coming from a Cambridge, MA company “Frequency Therapeutics.” It believes that drugs targeting the Lgr5+ progenitor cells in the inner ear can stimulate dormant cilia to regenerate. The company anticipates human clinical trials for this sometime in 2019. MORE
