3-D Printed Meniscus

With someone in the US undergoing knee replacement surgery every 45 seconds, its little wonder that much research is going into alternatives. A deteriorated meniscus, worsening with arthritis is the most common reason for surgery, but recently, plastic pads have offered one solution, and now, researchers at Aspect Biosystems (Vancouver, BC) are developing a 3-D bioprinted artificial meniscus (though this piece doesn’t say the cells, biomaterials or growth factors the company uses with its “Lab-on-a-printer” technology).
