“Shape Shifting” 4D Printing
August 25, 2015 | Terry Sharrer
What makes 4D printing different from 3D is that the former can change shape after being exposed to heat or water. The trick is in the ink—a hydrogel and polymer that autonomously responds to environmental changes. This piece doesn’t say if this material is meant to be used for every layer in 3D printing, or in one or more layers between conventional materials. It does open several new possibilities for implantable medical devices. MORE
