3-D Printed Pelvis Implanted

While personalized medicine usually refers to molecular marvels, surgery claims priority in that genre—separating the person from the affliction. In this piece, a British man in his 60’s, suffering from a chondroscaroma, had half of his pelvis removed and replaced with a 3-D printed (titanium) prosthetic into which new bone could grow. A surgical robot accomplished the pelvis implant with an artificial hip in twelve hours, and the man was able to walk three weeks later. MORE
