Ferumocytol is an iron supplement already approved to treat anemia.  It readily finds it way to mesenchymal stem cells in bone marrow.  Knowing this, orthopedic researchers at Stanford University’s School of Medicine have now shown that, in laboratory animals, this iron supplement presents a strong MRI signal when the mesenchymal cells are used to repair joint cartilage in autologous transplants.
