RFID Monitor for Hand-Washing
May 21, 2013 | Terry Sharrer
Sarasota, FL-based IntelligentM has introduced and RFID and accelerometer bracelet that doctors and nurses wear to monitor hand-washing, as a deterrent to hospital acquired infections. The passive RFID records where and how often personnel visit washing and sanitation stations, while the accelerometer tracks the motion and time in the process. A micro USB port allows that data to be downloaded for compliance. Not all 100,000 per year hospital acquired infections in the US are due to improper hand cleansing, but since Medicare no longer reimburses for any HAI’s, their obvious sources are capital reasons for remediation.
