3-D Printer in a Briefcase
October 23, 2012 | Terry Sharrer
So far this year, Tagline has carried stories about 3-D printing of bones (Jan. 17 and Mar. 13), muscle tissue (Apr. 10) and tissue scaffolds (July 17); now comes this piece about a 3-D printer from MIT that is small enough to fit into a briefcase. What will derive is any one’s guess, but certainly microfluidics chips, sensors, electronic implants and bionic devices, prosthetics, thin-film transistors, stents, rapid pathogen detectors, “smart” bandages, and many other innovative fields are within reach of garage-roofed start ups.
