November 1, 2011 | Terry Sharrer
A recent planning study on the national healthcare workforce projected job growth in this sector to rise from 10.5% (of all US workers in 2008) to 11.9% by 2018 (or, from 15.8 million to 19.8 million people). This site has a downloadable version of that study. With labor costs now running at 56% of total healthcare expenses, and strong pressure to knock down that figure, a possible conclusion is that there will be more jobs paying lower wages. Of course, these dynamics mainly apply to delivering healthcare without intervening disruptive innovation. MORE and DOWNOAD FULL STUDY
