Advancing Molecular Imaging
Cardinal Health (Dublin, OH), the enormous for-profit healthcare company that manages hospitals and manufactures much of its own supply chain products, announced a few months ago that it is creating “The Center for the Advancement of Molecular Imaging” in Phoenix, AZ to develop new PET imaging agents (radiopharmaceuticals). The ability to deliver an imaging agent to a precise target also implies a capability of sending a therapeutic down the same path-an idea sometimes called “theranostics.” The key features of Cardinal’s imaging center are a collaboration laboratory; state-of-the-art PET manufacturing facility; fully functional and private “guest laboratory;” and a Global PET Production Control Center (which will have video access to all the manufacturing sites.
