Implanted Wireless Sensor for Glucose Monitoring
October 5, 2010 | Terry Sharrer
GlySens (San Diego, CA) is testing an implanted glucose monitor that detects and measures glucose in tissue by an oxidation reaction the glucose makes with two enzymes coated on a titanium disc about the diameter of a quarter. The device, after measuring the oxygen generated, sends a reading to an external monitor (which, eventually, could be a cellphone) every two minutes. In people, this device would be implanted below the collarbone or in the lower abdomen. The company is awaiting FDA approval to start the human trial. MORE
