USPTO Rejects Patent on Human Embryonic Stem Cells

It’s worth looking over the USPTO’s decision to reject the University of Wisconsin’s patent on human embryonic stem cell lines as an example of science and social acceptability hitting in a head on crash. The Patent Office didn’t base its decision directly on discovering human cells with pluripotent features, but rather on the fact that James Thompson’s work with human cells wasn’t novel, since the same R&D had been done with other species.
