“Can the value of the services provided by mobile health programs be quantified in terms of quality adjusted life years saved and estimated emergency department expenditures avoided?”-is the question a research group addressed in a recent issue of the online journal BMC Medicine. According to their algorithm, a mobile medical van could provide care for underserved populations and diminish their impact on ED’s to the extent that every dollar spent on the mobile van saved $36 in emergency costs.
