Wrong Medical Procedures – Oops!
January 20, 2009 | Terry Sharrer
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid announced on Jan. 15 that it will not reimburse hospitals and surgeons for three “never” events: wrong procedure performed on a patient; a procedure performed on the wrong body part; or a procedure performed on the wrong patient. “These policies have the potential to reduce causes of serous illness or death to beneficiaries and reduce unnecessary costs to Medicare.” Does this imply that such errors have had payment for the last 44 years? It seems so. MORE
