Savings from Telemedicine

Better Healthcare Together, a coalition of business and policy leaders, has issued a report asserting that broadband-based applications for healthcare could improve outcomes while saving the US $197 b over the next twenty five years. Economist Robert Litan based this saving mainly on reducing ED visits, hospitalizations, and length of stays in hospitals for four, large population chronic diseases: congestive heart failure, diabetes, COPD, and chronic skin conditions. The report suggests that reimbursement issues are a critical issue to solve, though bringing broadband into more homes is a limiting factor too. MORE
