Small Molecular Probes
A consortium of nine research institutes will receive $70 million a year for the next four years from the National Institutes of Health to screen some 300,000 small molecules for their effect on cell functions. These institutes that form the Molecular Libraries Probe Production Centers Network include the Burnham Center for Chemical Genomics, the Broad Institute Comprehensive Screening Center, the NIH Chemical Genomics Center, the Scripps Research Institute’s Comprehensive Center for Chemical Probe Discovery and Optimization, Johns Hopkins Ion Channel Center, Southern Research Specialized Biocontainment Screening Center, University of New Mexico Center for Molecular Discovery, University of Kansas Specialized Chemistry Center, and Vanderbilt’s Specialized Chemistry Center for Accelerated Probe Development.
