New Directions in Healthcare
By 2015, projected healthcare costs will hit $4 trillion and account for 20 percent of the US economy according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. With healthcare spending outstripping the overall economy, the federal agency also projects an average expenditure of $12,320 per person by 2015. To address issues of rising costs, slow technology adoption, quality, and system gridlock from an anticipated baby boomer “age wave,” health care providers must help chart a new course to meet the challenge. Key elements will include patient-centered care options, a stronger embrace of automation and technology, and a more robust foundation of translational research and education. Mr. Singleton will discuss ideas, trends, and issues that likely will help shape a future of excellent care at maximum efficiency.
