Heart beat monitors have come to this: an electronic, stick on, “tattoo.” Engineers at the University of Texas-Austin designed what they call the first stretchable ultrathin sensor that can record both electrocardiography and seismocardiography data—i.e. both heart beat and movements in the chest wall that indicate synchronous performance. The device is made of polyvinylidene, which has piezoelectric capability though the device is powered remotely by the user’s smartphone. MORE
