Braak staging . Parkinson’s Disease
Through imaging studies of 49 Parkinson’s patients and 54 age-matched controls, researchers in Seoul found that there was an association between macular sensitivity and retinal layer thickness and early stage Parkinson’s disease. Quoting their conclusions: “Retinal thinning is present in the early stages of PD, correlates with disease severity, and may be linked to nigral dopaminergic degeneration. Retinal imaging may be useful for detection of pathologic changes occurring in early PD.” MORE
