Serotonin
Only two things can really make you happy…..serotonin and dopamine….., so read a T-shirt at a neurobiology conference in Stockholm. But exactly how serotonin and dopamine balance each other in measurable ways has been mysterious until now when researchers at Virginia Tech used PET scans measurements of changes in neurotransmitters every 100 milliseconds. What they concluded was that serotonin tempers excitement over positive outcomes in decision making, while it also softens disappointment with negative outcomes. They termed this function “keep calm and carry on,” remembering the famous slogan from London during World War II. MORE
