Bioglass is a synthetic material made of silica and a polymer that was first used for treating bone injuries during the Vietnam War. Now researchers at Imperial College London and the University of Milan have used 3-D printing to form a scaffold for making implantable discs for joints. Pores allow natural cartilage cells to fill in and the material has self-healing capacity. MORE
