Wireless Brain-Computer Interface

Three years ago, neuroscientists at Brown University released a video of a quadriplegic woman using a brain-machine interface that controlled a robotic arm, allowing her to sip a mug of coffee. With this original “BrainGate” the device was wired, but now comes a wireless version, “Cereplex-W,” which is commercially available for $15,000. Future steps should include a battery that can be recharged externally, a completely implanted interface, and greater data processing capability. MORE
