Early Detection of Atherosclerosis
May 8, 2012 | Terry Sharrer
Biophysicists at the University of Virginia have identified a gene expression profile for diagnosing the risk an individual has for developing atherosclerosis They found more than three hundred genes that contributed to familial hyperlipedemia (compared to control subjects), but then narrow down the biomarker array to 56 genes that correlated with high or low risk factors. Atherosclerosis has a long asymptomatic phase, but will occur in two of three American men and one in two women after age 40. MORE
