Seizure Detection Technology

Two companies-Cyberonics (Houston, TX) and Flint Hills Scientific (Lawrence, KS) are teaming up to make a more effective, implantable device to detect and quantify epileptic seizures through cardiac signals. Cyberonics already makes a device that sends electrical pulses through the vagus nerve to reduce the number and severity of seizures. Flint Hills Scientific has developed the algorithm that sends heart signal data to activate Cyberonics’ device. Both companies imagine this approach might also be applied to pain management and movement disorders. MORE
