Implant for Remote Heart Monitoring
February 17, 2009 | Terry Sharrer
On Feb. 16, Medtronic announced its new implantable heart monitor, “Reveal XT,” as part of its Care Link Network. A patient, dealing with atrial fibrillation, can have the monitor implanted under the skin, much like a pacemaker. To capture ECG data, a small recorder is placed over the monitor. With the digital heartbeat captured, the patient can send the information over the phone to a physician. (Obviously, it’s an easy advance to imagine how this might be done continuously and passively). MORE
