Intel Health@Home
Realizing that chronic disease patients consume eighty cents of every health care dollar, Intel has launched the first of what it expects will be a huge growing market for telehealth between doctors and their patients at home. The initial device is called “Intel Health Guide”-which uses a 10.5 inch touch screen computer monitor as a two way communication means. Other devices that measure blood pressure, weight, and oxygen levels feed data into the computer. The main target for this is physicians and their patients dealing with congestive heart failure and COPD. Key to success is, of course, insurance reimbursement, and Intel hopes to make its case with Kaiser Permanente. Honeywell and Philips also have competing devices in this field. MORE
