Retinal Photo Screening for Diagnosing Autism; Near 100% Accuracy
February 27, 2024 | Terry Sharrer
“This diagnostic study examined the potential of deep learning algorithms to screen for ASD [autism spectrum disorder] and possibly symptom severity using retinal photographs. Our findings suggest that the optic disc area is crucial for differentiating between individuals with ASD and TD [typical development]. Although future studies are required to establish generalizability, our study represents a notable step toward developing objective screening tools for ASD, which may help address urgent issues such as the inaccessibility of specialized child psychiatry assessments due to limited resources.” MORE
