Brain Activation Patterns Identify Thoughts
Here’s a conundrum to consider: does a comatose person have a privacy right to their thoughts? This wouldn’t even be an imaginable question were it not for researchers at Carnegie Mellon University having invented a so-called “mind-reading machine.” By applying machine learning algorithms to functional MRI signals, these scientists were able to read complex concept—even entire sentences from brain scans–with 87% accuracy.
