Chip for Cochlear Implant
Cochlear implants have these components: a transitter affixed to the skull, a wire between the transmitter and a microphone in the ear, and a power source worn outside the ear like a traditional hearing aid. A new design from MIT’s Microsystems Technology Lab, however, relies on a low power signal processing chip to detect sounds and transmit them into the natural middle ear, and has a rechargeable battery (that can repower overnight from an adapter for a phone).
