Heart pacemakers evolved from a cart-platform the patient pushed around, to a wearable necklace, and, in 1958 to a small implantable device. But in the six decades since then, micro and nanotechnologies have envisioned all kinds of devices that can reduce pain, control movement disorders, and improve functions from the brain to the, pancreas, intestines and limbs.
