Automated Analysis of MRI Images

It’s not uncommon for a woman to get an MRI for breast cancer and wait for weeks to have the results. While the patient wonders and worries, her scan is batched with others so radiologists can set aside a focused time for reading images. Many other things can happen during this lag, but engineers at the University of Texas Advanced Computing Center in Austin have written a computer algorithm that scans the image and gives results in minutes, and the process is automated.
