Wearable Tracking of Treatment for Oncology Patients

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is testing a wearable activity tracker, with cloud reporting, for its multiple myeloma patients. The protocol calls for wearing the device for a week before chemotherapy begins (to establish a baseline) and then continue the monitoring for four months to check for fatigue and appetite. With all the wearable, implantable and ingestible sensors for telemonitoring, which easily might continue if treatment evolves into symptoms management, this seems like a tepid step for a major cancer care provider, but at least it’s a start.
