Illumina and You as an App

In what seems like a gigantic opportunity for product liability lawyers, sequencer-maker Illumina plans to launch a consumer genomic company which relies on app developers to create interpretive analysis programs. Illumina would do a customer’s genome sequencing and hold it in the cloud. App developers would then offer their interpretive programs and Illumina would charge to download part of the customer’s sequence data. Only such issues as FDA approval, cloud security, product liability, “false claims,” and perhaps a customer’s compromised capacity for free consent remain to be resolved. MORE
