Hair Raising Stem Cells

“Mr. Ray,” your hair-weaves are toast! Researchers at the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute (La Jolla, CA) have used induced pluripotent stem cells to produce artificial dermal papillae cells which resulted in hair follicle formation and hair growth. Actually, the process involved two steps—first, inducing the stem cells to become neural crest cells, and second, transforming these intermediate cells into dermal papillae. MORE
