Bedsore Sensor
December 23, 2014 | Terry Sharrer
Don’t slight bedsores: one killed “Superman” (Christopher Reeve). Two and a half million annual cases present American healthcare with a $11b bill. To address this, Leaf Healthcare (Pleasanton, CA) now has an FDA cleared sensor, placed on a patient’s chest, to document how often the person has been turned to one side or the other. The device is disposable, wireless, and sends its signal to a receiver plugged into an ordinary electrical outlet, which then gets forwarded to a computer, tablet or smartphone. In hospital tests, compliance showed an improvement from 64% to 98% reduction of pressure ulcers. MORE
