Nerve Stimulator Helps in Stroke Recovery

“ETH Zurich researchers have developed a smart earpiece that helps people relearn physical actions faster and more easily after a stroke. By stimulating the brain, the earpiece helps it rewire neural circuits. . . . . An earpiece uses electrical impulses to stimulate the vagus nerve in the ear. This helps the brain rewire motor neural circuits to restore function to damaged areas. A movement sensor featuring analysis software developed in-house tells the earpiece when to emit impulses. In contrast to previous methods involving the vagus nerve, this technology does not require a surgical procedure and can even be used at home.” MORE
