Photoblueing of Organic Dyes Can Cause Artifacts in Super-Resolution Microscopy

In super resolution fluorescence microscopy, the laser that excites organic molecules, like Cy5 dye, can have two undesirable effects: photobleaching and photoblueing. The laser causes very reactive oxygen molecules to form in the sample. For photoblueing, scientists at the University of Wurzburg found that adding vitamin C to the sample counters that effect.
