Regenerating Neurons in Mice

Axon regeneration is the objective of scientists at Temple University, and the molecule that accomplishes this is one called “Lin 28,” an RNA binding protein. It naturally functions in stem cell activation, but this report explains how mice were genetically modified to over express Lin 28 to repair spinal cord and retinal nerve injuries. If this advances to human medicine, it could mean that severely damaged nerves would no longer be permanent. MORE
