Three Minutes and 20 Seconds vs. 10,000 Years

Both IBM and Google have claimed “quantum superiority”—that is, an ability to use quantum properties of superposition and entanglement to predict an object’s properties. This is nothing like the traditional computer’s calculations based on a fixed state of 0s or 1s. Google’s quantum computer is able to do calculations in 20 seconds that the fastest supercomputer would require 10,000 years to complete. So far, this has not been applied to measuring the interactions of entire genomes or their protein products, but those possibilities, in the realm of artificial intelligence, may not be on a too distant horizon.
