Inhaling mRNA

Cystic fibrosis is a terrible suffocating disease for both children who are afflicted and parents who suffer for them. And, it has proved exceedingly difficult to treat, much less cure. Chemical engineers at MIT, however, may have a promising new strategy. They have encapsulated mRNA molecules in a positively charged biodegradable polymer so the product can reach the lungs from a nebulizer and release the mRNA to start making a protein that can dissolve the obstructing mucus.
