Memory Enhancing Brain Prosthetic
At Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center epilepsy treatments include implanting electrodes in the brain which can stimulate counter measures to a seizure. With that, researchers ran neural profiling on memory function, using the same electrodes, to see if memory might be improved with this electrical stimulation. They found that, in this small study, about a 35% increase in memory retention. As the report says: “This research appears to open the door to memory-enhancing brain implants that may someday be able to give you a button you can press when you’re looking at something that helps increase your chances of remembering it later – and it’s clear how that kind of thing could be an immediate game changer for those willing to take the plunge and get one fitted.” MORE
