To the number of medical procedures that cost about $1,500, like extracting and storing umbilical cord blood, and MRI imaging, whole genome sequencing of a newborn is now added, at least in China (by an American company). Veritas Genetics (Danvers, MA) is offering a sequencing product that scans for 950 disease risks, 200 genes related to drug reactions, and 100 physical traits—to Chinese parents who want to know this information about their new baby.
