Ultrasound Treatment of Tremors

The FDA has approved the first focused ultrasound device for treating tremors in patients who do not respond to drug therapy. The device works by generating heat that interrupts neural circuits responsible for tremors, and the location for accomplishing that is MRI guided. Research and development was done at the University of Virginia, but while eligible patients can have this treatment it is not yet covered by healthcare insurance. MORE
