Building a Robot that “Strolls”
September 6, 2016 | Terry Sharrer
It’s no easy feat to mechanically reproduce a human motion such as walking gracefully. But Georgia Tech’s robot “DURUS” is able to stroll on his size 13 arched, spring-loaded metal feet. These engineers started with a flat-footed walking robot and have now moved up to one with a natural gait, but they are next hoping to create one that climbs stairs or can run afield. Who knows? They might even create one that dances like “Little Eva” to her 1962 hit “Loco-Motion.” MORE
