Photonics Device for Diagnosing Thyroid Cancer
June 14, 2016 | Terry Sharrer
A European consortium has developed, and is testing, a new device for diagnosing thyroid nodules which would indicate whether they are benign or malignant. This device, called “LUCA” for laser-ultrasound co-analyzer, is an ultrasound-like probe placed on the neck that relies on soundwaves to image a nodules structure, and near infrared light to show its physiology. This greater detail could reduce the number of unnecessary surgeries. MORE
