With a microfluidics device that resembles in principle a magnetic bead isolator column, researchers at the University of Manitoba have created a lab chip that does quantitative analysis of negatively charged neutrophils from sputum samples of COPD patients. The device requires only a drop of blood, and returns results in 25 minutes. MORE
