Sugar as a Contrast Agent for Imaging

Like the observation that a tumor’s microenvironment is more acidic than surrounding tissue, researcher at Lund University and Johns Hopkins have seen that tumors also differentiate from normal tissue by having greater glucose consumption. Pursuing that, these scientists have used sugar to replace metal-based imaging agents in magnetic resonance tomography for showing brain tumors. MORE
