Origami-Inspired Surgical instruments

The Japanese acquired their concepts of paper folding as an art form from the Chinese, who for centuries had used flat sheets of paper, folded to make mementoes, for funeral fires. Now mechanical engineers at Brigham Young University are adapting origami to making smaller, simpler tools for the da Vinci surgical robot. Their concept is to make instruments that are so small that their incisions will heal without being sutured. See the video MORE WITH VIDEO
